Leader's Productivity Improvement May Create Less Workplace

In these days, we are looking for so many opportunities to reduce the cost. One of the opportunities is reducing the workplace. The reduction of rental cost and service charge would be very significant once you can reduce it until 20% from yearly cost.
The improvement of productivity will start with:
  • Change of mindset
Relate to workplace, the mindset of having bigger space for higher level of management shall be changed. The higher level of management is human being too, therefore:
  • The usage of workplace shall be similar with others.
  • The size of areas shall be similar with others
  • The facilities shall be similar with others

  • Skill improvement
The improvement of people’s skill; relate to people management, operations and team development.
By improving these skills, the leader shall able to;
  • Identify the capacity & capability of their team member
  • Understand the workload of their team
  • Improve the team and convert the improvement to workplace’s reduction.

  • Time management improvement
The improvement of time management may significantly effect to the usage of workplace. The improvement may include:
  • Self-time management
  • Internal meeting coordination
  • To-do list categorization and priority setting
The result of above improvements may vary depend of the goals from the companies, below the sample of actual possibilities impacts from the improvements are:
Change of mindset
By having new mindset that all higher level management shall have similar size of workplace with others, the companies can reduce the size of workplace for their higher level management
Below the standard of workplace for references:
Refer to above standard, the companies shall able to modify their policy to reduce any space the bigger than above standard.
 Skill Improvement
Based on my experience, by getting a good leadership program, person shall able to improve themselves up-to 30% from their current capacity. By having leader who able to improve themselves until 30%, they shall able to identify, to analyze and to have more ideas regarding improving their team and optimize the workplace.
 Time Management Improvement
The impact of skill improvement shall improve the time management’s skill. Leader shall able to identify their important activities and set their priorities.
This shall lead to have a very good and productive meeting. Therefore, the meeting room shall be more productive, which mean the same room and same time may have more meeting.
Of course, before reducing the workplace, the companies shall do a proper analysis, observation and tools such as utilization study, review of job description & workload and etc.
In Indonesia, the multinational companies have implemented a standard size of workplace to all employees, flexible working area and meeting room’s booking software. By having this kind of condition, the companies would have a productive workplace.
